The course will explore the diverse dimensions of the agroecology - innovation nexus, seeking to understand the ‘innovation landscape’, and exploring “what is innovation for agroecology?”. It will traverse plural grassroots learning processes, and the underlying knowledge systems needed for the development of innovations for agroecology. It reflects on diverse examples of organised innovation processes in the grassroots to better understand the enabling environment that makes innovation for agroecology possible and scalable. The course will be the opportunity to discover actors and social processes enabling local innovations and technologies to emerge in support of farming communities' technology autonomy.
The course is taught by Scola Campesina Aps, in collaboration with the Grassroots Innovations Assembly for Agroecology (GIA). It is offered by the University of Vermont’s Institute for Agroecology in partnership with Stats4SD, with support from the McKnight Foundation
